2012 DeNoble AAUW Innovative Teaching Grant Recipient

The Innovative Teaching Grant will be used to purchase (with additional District funding) a Lego Simple Machines and Mechanic Kits for the Middle School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Program.
This activity-oriented, problem-based program shows students how technology is used in engineering to solve everyday problems. Over 100 students will participate in a broad range of activities within engineering design technology, modeling the mechanized systems of our homes, structures and productions systems.
Congratulations to Ms DeNoble and her students on this innovative Middle School STEM program.
Puyallup Valley AAUW’s Innovative Teaching Grants are given to teachers (KG- 12) for innovative projects that extend classroom enrichment and instruction, provide opportunities not available with regular district funds and will benefit a maximum number of students. Proposals are also evaluated on equity issues and assisting girls in developing increased interest and skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Since the grants were first awarded in 1996, they have been given to 45 teachers with the potential to improve the quality of education for a minimum of 1350 students. In reality an uncounted number of students have benefited since many grants impact multiple classrooms over multiple years.
