Branch Projects – Past and Present

  • Tech Trek Week long summer STEM camp for girls entering 8th grade sponsored by AAUW WA.
  • High School Scholars Recognition Program – recognition of outstanding junior girl in Math, Science and Technology at 8 high schools
  • AAUW Gwen Fletcher Memorial Scholarship– Each fall, applications are sent to the High School Scholars honored the previous spring, inviting them to apply for the scholarship honoring a charter member and former educator.
  • Puyallup Garden Tour-The Garden Tour was initiated by the branch in 2018 as the only fundraiser to support our education initiatives in the Puyallup Valley area.
  • Innovative Teaching Grants – grants to teachers in the Fife, Orting, Puyallup, Sumner/Bonney Lake and Chief Leschi school districts for enhancing educational projects that support AAUW Goals.
  • Support for AAUW Funds
  • Branch programs on interesting and informative subjects, many open to the public
  • Members attended school board meetings to lobby for hiring more women administrators
  • Held Candidate forums
  • Sponsored career workshops that emphasized math and science opportunities.
  • Published a list of local educational and recreational summer activities for children.
  • Supported three members who were instrumental in organizing WWEE (Washington Women’s Employment & Education), which became Courage 360, an independent private welfare-to-work organization, helped women with limited skills and finances gain independence.
  • Courage 360 Scholarships for program graduates allowed them to continue their education.
  • Assisted local organizations with a community Anti-Violence Fair
  • Parenting Plus Program supported by providing dinners for families attending parenting classes
  • Assisted the Women of Vision International Conference by hosting a 1992 reception for women from the Soviet Union
